Tomorrow my little one turns 10 months! Where did time go? Life has changed so much mostly for good! Don't mistake me when I say "mostly". I wouldn't change anything but with the new year here and everyone talking about their new years resolutions, I began to realize my goals are going to be harder to reach this year.
Challenge 1: Finding time to workout .
Just working out whenever I feel like it is not even an option. I have tried to work out with him but all I can get is about 5 minutes of chasing him around or using him as a weight. He quickly loses interest! I also have tried doing Wii fit or a work out dvd but he doesn't nap or stay in one place long enough. When the weather gets better I will be able to take walks outside. I have tried waking up early but I am often woken up earlier than I wanted to get up for my work out (and of course the next day he wakes up hours later!) I am left with evenings which I can and have done but then I am wired for hours right before bed. Now I am just trying to fit it in WHERE EVER I can!
Challenge 2: Organizing my house.
I would love to be this super mom with an organized /clean house. If anyone has tried organizing their life without children knows it can be very time consuming and hard to do. Now add in someone interupting you every 2 minutes and you might be organized in 10 years!
These are my 2 main "resolutions" this year. I am sure everyone else has their own and their own challenges! My exersaucer is my life saver! The baby will stay in there for at least 15 minutes! Try anything you can to still work on yourself!
Mama DJS
Over the past few months I have been asked repeatedly about being a new mom and what my experiences have been. I was lucky to have friends who have recently had babies or have small children. They gave me advice about being pregnant and dealing with these first few months of being a mom. I am in no way an expert but I have gotten great advice and learned a few things myself and want to share with others who maybe don't have the same kind of support I did/do.

Growing baby and baby clothing sizes.
It baffles my mind how babies differ sooooo much in sizes yet we still all buy baby clothing labeled by month. Baby Clothing should all be labeled by height and weight. My little boy is getting longer and longer everyday! I know he is gaining weight too but not toooo much. We went to the doctors about 1.5 weeks ago. He is in the 98% for height and 60% for weight. Now 6 month cloths do not fit him in length wise but weight he could get another few weeks out of. I had to change him into all 9 month sleepers about 2 weeks ago. I tried to keep a few 6 month sleepers out because they were clean and helped while I washed all the 9 month sleepers. I feel it happened over night!!!! His poor little legs were bent in the sleepers! : (
So now my almost 7 month old is in all 9 month clothing! A few of my mommy friends told me to cut the feet out of the sleepers to get some more time out of them. While I see the point, I did not do it. I feel this is my first kid, why not just have enough sleepers for each stage because my next kid will need sleepers too!!
I went out today and saw some cute outfits but they were only marked by month not weight and height. I ended up not getting anything because each brand is so different.
This was my little vent for the day!

Sick Mommy
It took over a week but I finally caught my husband and son's cold. This is the first time I have been really sick since having my son over 6 months ago. The cold hit me like a truck. I have been thinking though, maybe it didn't. Maybe, (because I am a mom, my husband was away, and I had a ton of other things going on ), there were signs the whole week before and I just ignored them. I thought I was doing everything to NOT get sick but I am.
SO now what do I do? Even with an amazing husband, mommy does not get a sick day. I took care of everything when my husband was sick. I don't think men are wired like that. My husband was away when I got sick. After a night of no sleep because of a teething baby and sick me, my mom took the baby for a few hours on Sunday. I slept and ran out to get more cold medicine. I know how blessed I am, to have a mom who can help. Once my husband came home, I was back in "mommy and wife mode." I did cut back a little but there are no sick days for mommy!

Pictures!!
SO with digital cameras and good cameras on phones, pictures are at our fingertips within minutes! We are spoiled. We also don't think as much before we take a picture if we really want it. Before digital cameras we only had 24 or so pictures for each roll of film. We would think about which shots were important. Now I feel like I miss some shots because I don't always think about it before.
I went to get my sons 6 month old pictures today. He did great!! I am sooo happy with how the pictures came out. About 15 minutes after he sat for the pictures I was able to pick out what poses I wanted and 15 minutes after that I was walking out with the pictures in hand!! SO much better than waiting a few weeks like we used to have to do.
As I sat there waiting for my pictures, I looked around the small studio. There were all kinds of pictures on the walls. (New born, family shots, toddlers, wedding, engagement, pregnant women....) I realized all the pictures I DON"T have. I never got engagement pics done. I never got professional (or even just home shots) of me when I was pregnant. I kind of wish I did now. I also know there are not many of me and my baby because my hubby does not take many pictures. I realize I need to make sure I get these pictures because he is only going to be this little, my only child, maybe my only boy, right now.
To all of you ladies who are pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant, get pregnancy shots now. Even if you don't go somewhere to get professional ones taken, take ones at home. I don't have any which focus on my belly! At the time I didn't think I would want to see any real pics of me pregnant. I was wrong!! I have a friend, who has 3 children. With each pregnancy she has done something new. I guess next time I will get pregnancy shots taken!

Getting Healthy for Baby
I have never been a big fitness person. I used to walk a lot and I did musicals in High school which I enjoyed the dancing part. I have belonged to gyms but never got into them enough to see too much result. I joined a gym with my mom yesterday. I am excited to start and get HEALTHY! Yes, losing the rest of my baby weight and some extra, would be nice but just an added bonus. I tried walking while I was pregnant but I was either too tired or it was so slippery (majority of my pregnancy was in the winter). Once you hold your little one in your arms you realize you need to take care of yourself and be healthy for them. Even if you were the most healthy person, who worked out everyday and ate all organic foods, you too will try and figure out how to be even more healthy.
One of the biggest challenges about getting healthy/losing weight once you have children is getting the TIME to work out or go to the health food store! Yesterday, just finding time to join a gym was hard because my husband and baby have a cold. Both of them looked at me with sad eyes as I left. Of course they were both fine (napping) when I got home. Today, my husband worked from home since he was still not feeling well. He had a meeting tonight so I knew if there was any hope of getting to the gym I would have to hurry and make it short. I got in and out and back home in an hour. Now remember as a mom you will also be trying to make healthy dinners (in between work, meetings and crying babies).
I feel so much better after going to the gym and I am determined to make it work. If your smart you find a gym with a baby sitter. (Mine does but the child must be walking...we are not there yet!) Another option is find another mom who wants to go to the gym (or just run errands) and take turns watching each others' little one. Or when all else fails DVDs at home after your baby goes to sleep.
Remember to eat healthy can be easy. Most grocery stores (even Walmart and Targets) have organic food, fresh meats, and fresh produce. Start there. As your little one gets a little older you may find a way to get to the health food store once a week or even realize it is all right there at the store you have always gone to!!
Good LUCK!!

Baby's first Cold
SO my Little one has his first cold! Has been congested, cranky, sneezy and has had a little cough since Saturday. At first I thought is was teething but then the clear gunk dripped out of his nose and he decided he would wake up ever hour all night. At first I thought, "Do I call the doctor?" Of corse I try not to be THAT mom, who calls the doctors every time the baby sneezes but it is hard. My hubby and I delt with it as best as we could that first night but no one got a lot of sleep. My poor husband even slept on the sofa with the baby on his chest so that every one could get at least a few hours of sleep at a time.
I decided to check with my mommy friends on Facebook the next morning. It was the weekend and the doctors office couldn't see him until Monday anyway. I simply asked what should I do and told them what I was already doing, (cool mist humidifier and extra fluids.)
Here is what they told me to do (in addition to what I was doing):
~ Tilt his mattress in his crib
~ put vicks vapor rub in his feet, chest and under his nose
~ Use a rubber bulb syringe
~ give him a warm bath right before bed
~ Let him sit in the bathroom with the shower running as hot as possible, to create steam, for 10 minutes
SO I tried all of these things that night. HE SLEPT!!! Didn't even wake up once! I got sleep too! I felt better in the morning and Joshua seemed a little better! He was still congested but he seemed to be a little more like my little boy.
His good mood went back and forth all day. It the afternoon I took his temp and it was 99.1. According to a booklet my doctor gave me it was ok because he is 6 months. I gave him some Tylenol for his teeth and the slight temp.
Again, last night it took a lot to get Joshua to bed. After about 2 hours of trying everything he feel asleep. Right now he is super congested but happy! I will take it!!
Hope this helps. I would have never done the vicks on the feet but it worked!

I'm New at this!
A few days ago my sister text me and asked what websites and books I used while I was pregnant because her boss was pregnant and needed some advice. She went on to explain how her boss was the first one of her friends to have a baby and didn't have anyone to ask all her questions to. I sent my sister a list of a few web sites and a few books I used for her to give her boss. Then today my sister text me again just to let me know she gave my list to another friend of hers who was in the same situation. I jokingly said, "I should start a blog!" She said, "yes, you should." SO here I am.
My baby is turning 6 months this week. I can't believe time has gone so fast. I don't pretend to be an expert about pregnancy, motherhood, or babies! I have many friends who have multiple children and are amazing moms! I went to them for advice during my pregnancy and even now. I know I needed someone other than my mom and mother-in-law to ask about everything. I hope to help some parents at least feel like they are not alone! If you have a question ask. I asked all kinds of embarrassing and crazy questions.
There were a lot of things I wish someone would have told me before they happened to me! I hope to give you a little incite into those things!
